Refund Policy
Last updated: February 2026 | Version: 2.1
1. Our Guarantee
30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee
Everyone who subscribes to Talking Paper is covered by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If within the first 30 days from your purchase you feel the product doesn't meet your expectations, you can request a refund — no hassles.
- Applies to all subscription plans
- No hassle refunds if expectations aren't met
- We review every request personally
EU & UK Customers — 14-Day Cooling-Off
Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to withdraw from your subscription within 14 days of your most recent payment without giving a reason.
- Use the in-app refund form (Settings → Subscription → Request a refund) and select "I am exercising my EU/UK 14-day cooling-off right (no reason required)". This option is auto-approved with no further questions.
- If you prefer, you can also email support@talkingpaper.app within the 14-day window and we will honour the request on the same terms.
- Approved cooling-off refunds are returned to your original payment method within 5–14 business days, depending on your bank or card issuer.
- This statutory right is in addition to the 30-day satisfaction guarantee above.
2. How Refunds Qualify
We aim to be fair and transparent. Refunds are typically granted when:
- Expectations Not Met: The product does not meet your expectations
- Technical or Access Issues: You experience a technical or access issue that significantly impacts use
- Incorrect Charges: You were charged incorrectly
- Accessibility Issues: You face accessibility issues that make the service difficult to use
If you're unsure whether your situation qualifies, just get in touch — we review every request personally.
3. Your Data, Your Control
Your journals and personal data are always yours. Even after a refund, you retain full control over your data:
- Export your data before account closure (we'll help throughout the process)
- 30-day grace period to recover your content if you change your mind after cancellation During this grace period your content is held in a recoverable soft-deleted state; permanent (hard) deletion happens automatically after the 30 days end. See the retention summary for what is removed and what is retained under GDPR Art. 17(3).
- Account closure with sign-in irreversibly anonymised after a 30-day grace period; journal entries and AI-derived data are removed from active service. See the Privacy Policy for what is removed and what is retained under GDPR Art. 17(3)
- Full control — your data remains yours throughout the entire process
Export window after cancellation
After you cancel your subscription or request account deletion, your data is retained for 30 days before permanent anonymisation and removal from active service. During this 30-day grace period you may export your data at any time via the Data Export page while you can still sign in.
Each generated export is downloadable for 7 days from the time it is produced. If your download link expires inside the 30-day grace window, simply return to the Data Export page and request a fresh export — you may do so as many times as needed during the grace period. Once the 30-day grace period ends, sign-in is anonymised and the in-app export button is no longer accessible; see the Privacy Policy retention summary for what happens to each data category after the grace period.
4. How to Request a Refund
The in-app refund form is the primary and preferred channel for every refund request. It records the request against your account immediately so our team can review it, and it gives EU/UK customers the auto-approved 14-day cooling-off option. Email is offered only as a fallback if you cannot access the in-app form.
- Primary channel — in-app form (preferred): open Account → Subscription → Request a refund (direct link: /payments/subscription/request-refund/), choose a reason, and submit. EU/UK customers selecting the 14-day cooling-off option are auto-approved with no reason required; all other requests are reviewed by our team within 5 business days.
- Fallback channel — email (only if you cannot reach the in-app form): write to support@talkingpaper.app with your email address, order number, and a brief description of your issue. Our team will respond within 5 business days and will log your request against your account on receipt so the audit trail matches an in-app submission.
- If approved, refunds are typically processed back to your original payment method within 5-14 business days, depending on payment provider.

5. What's Not Covered
To keep things fair for everyone, refunds generally cannot be issued for:
- Requests submitted after the 30-day window
- Accounts closed due to Terms of Service violations
- Chargebacks (please contact support before initiating one)
- Subscription time unused after the refund period
If you're unsure, let us know — we handle every case respectfully.
6. Payment Processing
All refunds are processed through our secure payment partner. The original payment method will be credited automatically.
- Secure Processing: Refunds are processed through our secure payment partner
- Automatic Credit: Your original payment method will be credited automatically
- Processing Time: Processing times may vary depending on your bank or card issuer
- Dunning grace: If a renewal payment fails, your paid features remain available until the end of the billing period you already paid for; after that, your account reverts to the free tier until payment succeeds.
